Public Caning in Terengganu Sparks Debate – Teo Nie Ching: No Complaints About Circulated Footage (Kulai, Dec 29) – The Terengganu state government carried out a public caning yesterday on a man convicted of illicit relations for the third time. Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching stated that her ministry has not received any complaints regarding the circulation of footage from the caning. Teo emphasized that if content related to the caning is shared on social media and there is a court order prohibiting its disclosure, the Ministry of Communications would take necessary action. Speaking as the Democratic Action Party (DAP) MP for Kulai, Teo addressed the issue during a media interview after officiating a grant handover ceremony for safety barrier installation at Kulai’s Jiangxia Hall. AI Detection of Violent Content Teo expressed confidence that social media platforms' artificial intelligence (AI) technology could automatically detect and block violent or graphic content, minimizing public exposure to disturbing material. Public Awareness She advised the public to exercise caution and avoid clicking on or sharing suspected content related to the caning, as this could lead to downloading malicious software or falling victim to scams. “The public should be wary of certain unknown links, as they may contain scams. Clicking on them could result in personal data breaches or financial losses,” she warned. Teo urged vigilance and responsible digital behavior to prevent further harm.
